INTELL FROM THE PRC

Chinese Missile Could Shift Pacific Power Balance

by Eric Talmadge

(Tokyo) AP-Nothing projects U.S. global air and sea power more vividly than supercarriers. Bristling with fighter jets aboard the USS George Washington that can reach deep into even landlocked trouble zones, America's virtually invincible carrier fleet has long enforced its dominance of the high seas. China may soon put an end to that.

U.S. naval planners are scrambling to deal with what analysts say is a game-changing weapon being developed by China - an unprecedented carrier-killing missile called the Dong Feng 21D that could be launched from land with enough accuracy to penetrate the defenses of even the most advanced moving aircraft carrier at a distance of more than 900 miles.

The USS George Washington supercarrier recently deployed off North Korea in a high-profile show of U.S. sea power.

The Chinese navy has become Asia's largest and has expanded beyond its traditional mission of retaking Taiwan to push its sphere of influence deeper into the Pacific and protect vital maritime trade routes.

The Air Force's top surveillance and intelligence officer, Lt. Gen. David Deptula, told reporters this week that China's effort to increase anti-access capability is part of a worrisome trend.

Excerpt from Chapter 4
INTELL FROM THE PRC

Court's mission is to gather intelligence on China's defensive weapons buildup. The mission is top priority based on the fact that over the years China has been expending enormous budgets on the proliferation of defensive weapons systems. Court needs to know why? What is China's long-term goals of supremacy? Their military stockpile is obviously in preparation for something large scale-sufficient to match that of the US? Is it to regain their long time quest to regain possession of Taiwan? Is China embarking on a strategy to extend their communist arm to seal Taiwan by dominating the US?

“What do you have working? Not a whole lot, am I right? Do you think China is going to remain a sleeping panda forever? Their time is coming and you and your poker playing analysts had better get off their asses. The panda is kinda...getting an appetite. It's sooner than you think. Look, we'll play this operation at their own game...copy their techniques.”

“How is this going to help the bureau? If you can't get it up and running in a month, it won't impress my station chief.”

“Your station chief is asleep at the wheel just like the boys on the hill. I need some time but I'm sure it will produce results right away. Your so-called analyst's prediction is way off.”

“Meaning?”

“Peters it's sooner than you think...within five years China will become a major military threat. Remember ninety-five percent of all US products are made in China. If the communist party wants to squeeze the US all they have to do is impose severe taxes on our factories or just shut off the power. Those black-outs they have every week could become permanent. What makes you think China and the pinko party are going to sit still when they have a prime opportunity in their lap?...and we handed it to them.”

“I don't think your bureau has grasped the ideology of their culture. When are they going to get with the program? Just like your so-called analyst predicted by 2050 China will become an economic and military threat. Apparently, someone high up in the bureau shares my opinion. The Pentagon is on top of it. They just finished building 100 new submarine slips in Guam. Let's say for a moment that China decided to impose a factory shutdown or strike if you will...for whatever reason...a month or longer. Let's say for three months all US products made in China are no longer crowding Walmart's shelves. Do you suppose for one minute what the impact would be to our economy? Who would make our products for almost nothing? China is the riskiest link in our economic chain. And as you know the Chinese are most eager to get their hands on US trade secrets. Don't be fooled for one minute. They were able to steal our Commerce Secretary's laptop from a conference in Beijing.”
